On Saturday morning, nine moms left their kids , husbands and chores at home and met at Spring Blooms in Bhoomi Acres for two hours of chai, sharing and bonding.
As we started to talk and share our journey as moms, one common thread was the feeling of guilt that we felt if we even took a little time off for ourselves, whether it was to go to the parlour or just share a cup of coffee with a friend.
One young mom, Shikha, shared how she had overcome her guilt and how liberated she felt now that she had managed to create space for herself in her life.
Life Coach, Priyanka Arora spoke on how communication needs have changed over the generations. When once we were only told to stay away from boys as we entered our teens, (forget about a proper sex education session), today we have to talk about good and bad touch to our preschoolers.
Then I, using my years of experience as a mom of twins and a life skills trainer, took the moms through communication exercises that they could use to both listen more effectively as well as ways to talk to their kids about unacceptable behaviour.
We spoke of half listening, accusative listening and conscious listening and learnt to use the what, why , how method to speak to our kids to communicate exactly what we want while keeping anger at bay.
The session ended with a chai and a fun session of charades where we enacted nursery rhymes for the others to guess. All in all, it was two hours well spent in fun and sharing and everyone left feeling more postive and empowered than when we had started.
The next session will be on the 8th of February, 2020. The topic is “Discipline with love”.
If you are a young mom and would like to attend, do send a message on whatsapp on 9892939062.
