A course to create awareness and develop communication skills in young adults.

OVERVIEW & PURPOSE

Once our children are done with school and enter college, it is a whole new world. They need skills that they did not really need in school. They need to be more aware of the what is happening in the world. They need to be able to put forth their opinions about these happenings in a way that is clear and effective.

This course is all about introducing young adults (age 16 and above), to current affairs and world issues. It teaches them to analyse the news after listening to both sides of the matter. The course helps them articulate their own views while respecting those who have a counter view.

Methodology:

The students are encouraged to read the news and talk about it. They express their own views and defend those views. Sometimes they play devil’s advocate and pretend that they have an opposing view and they have to defend that.

Group discussions, writing articles and letters are all part of the programme.

Duration of the course:

Sessions will be held for an hour twice a week, via Zoom or Google Meet. In order to give everyone a chance to speak, the group size will be limited to five.

What my students have to say:

“This course helped me a lot in many ways like getting to know the current happenings around the world and being able to give my personal opinion on the articles or news regarding the current happenings. Sharing  my personal opinion and thoughts regarding any matter was something new to me and I was not confident enough to do so.

It also helped me improve my vocabulary and communication skills. After joining and doing this course I can see  changes in my communication, vocabulary and spoken English skills. So I am really glad that I joined this course.”
